Since B's birthday was going to be on a Monday, we decided to have a little birthday party with his friends on Saturday instead. We had the invitations handed out before we realized what kind of day that particular Saturday was going to turn out to be. Between soccer practices, soccer games, ballroom dress rehearsals, YM and Scout stuff, and all kinds of craziness, our day quickly became packed!! Turns out that I would be all alone doing this party with a whole bunch of 7- and 8-yr-old boys. We probably invited too many, but we also knew this would be the last big party. (I'm hoping to convince him to just pick an activity and invite one or two friends from here on out.) Bryson likes basketball, so what better theme for a party in March, than a "March Madness" party!!
Here was his fun invitation! B's head on Jimmer's body! LOL.
Of course the ones we handed out also had the information for the date/time/etc.
I had fun decorating, and made these little signs and banners that hung in the kitchen. I couldn't find my hole punch, so I figured tape would do. Too bad the "invisible" tape I got wasn't very invisible. LOL!
At the party, we played some basketball type games: A dribbling relay, Pin the Ball on the Hoop, and a ball toss type game. I hardly took any pictures, because I had to run the entire show... but it was fun. To pick what order the boys would give their presents, we played HOT POTATO with a basketball. Whoever it ended on would give their gift. Bryson loved all the nice gifts his friends gave him.
That night Bryson chose Pizza for dinner. YAY! Made our crazy day just a tiny bit easier, because as soon as we were done eating, Eryn and I were out the door to go to the Young Women General Broadcast. It was awesome, but I was so exhausted by the time I was able to sit down, that I kinda dozed off a couple of times. Oops!!
Monday came quickly, and since it was his REAL day, he got to eat breakfast in bed:
He had a fun day at school, then later that evening we had aunts, uncles, cousins and Papa and Grandma over for Cake and Ice Cream. Just before they all came, B got a birthday call from his cousin Jacob who lives in Pennsylvania. It was hilarious listening to their conversation.
Bryson was so excited when one of his gifts turned out to be a Jimmer Fredette jersey!!
Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a cake decorator. We joke that I got my cake decorating skills from my Grandma. Don't get me wrong, she was a wonderful cook, and made DELICIOUS cakes and desserts, she just wasn't very good at DECORATING them. Now on the other hand, my mom always made some sweetly decorated cakes. I have a couple of sisters who got that gene. It passed me by. However, I was pretty proud of these ones... after I pieced them back together when they fell apart coming out of the pan. LOL!!! All that mattered was what they tasted like, anyway, and B thought they were fantastic!!!
I still can't believe that my sweet little boy is EIGHT!!! Those 8 years flew by. This coming weekend he will be getting baptized, and hopefully we'll have some 8-yr-old portraits really soon.
